RAFT and Science is Elementary partnered to make two kits for ages 4 to 7 that put a story and an experiment in the same box. Jasmine and José are the characters children follow through both.
Why the characters matter
- Multicultural characters make science relatable and inspiring for every learner.
- Science and literacy together, so the reading and the experiment reinforce each other.
- Curiosity first. Each kit is built to prompt questions rather than deliver answers.
- Works anywhere, in a classroom, an afterschool program or at a kitchen table.
Jasmine and José On a Roll
Children build their own car and experiment with forces to find out how objects move and what gravity does. The first experiment tests the effect of force on a flat surface; the second adds a ramp and looks at speed and distance.
Each individual kit contains foam wheels, straws, a cardboard base and a guide book. A Classroom Bundle contains 25 kits, a teacher guide book and 4 ramps. Individual kits do not include ramps, which are sold separately.
Jasmine and José Make a Rainbow
The second kit explores light: where the hidden colors in white light are and how a rainbow forms, using simple materials. Each kit contains a cardboard tube, diffraction grating stickers and a guide book. The Classroom Bundle adds a teacher guide book, 4 prisms and crayons to the 25 kits.
Buying them
Both kits and their classroom bundles are in the store under the Jasmine & José collection.
