A shift is two and a half hours, hands-on and social, and it ends with a stack of finished kits you can actually see. No experience needed. Everything is taught on the day.
A shift, start to finish
What a shift looks like
01
Arrival and orientation
A short walkthrough of the space, the project and the safety basics. Please come on time: we cannot start anyone who arrives more than fifteen minutes late.
02
The work
Counting and bundling materials, cutting and sorting, bagging components, and packing Spark STEAM Kits. A few jobs use minor power tools, and those are taught and supervised.
03
The context
Staff explain which activity your materials belong to and which students will receive it, so you know what you are making and who it is for.
04
Wrap-up
Counts logged, workspace reset, and a tally of what the group produced. That last number is the one people take a photo of.
Good to know
The practical bits, up front
None of this is a hurdle. It is just what saves you a phone call before your first shift.
9:30 or 1:00
Two and a half hours a shift: 9:30 to noon, or 1:00 to 3:30, Tuesday through Sunday.
12 and up
Under 18s sign a youth permission form, emailed when you sign up. Twelve and thirteen year olds come with an adult.
Closed-toe shoes
The one thing to bring. Otherwise come as you are, and please stay home if you are unwell.
Service hours
RAFT staff can approve hours for community service. Say so when you arrive.
Volunteers include

Students earning service hours

Ready to start
Pick a shift and come make something
Shifts run Tuesday through Sunday. Groups of ten or more sign up once a month, and volunteer@raft.net can set up a regular schedule for a team that wants to come back.
