Makerspaces & Materials

Makerspaces are a great way to encourage curiosity and hands-on learning.

Design Consultation and Implementation Plan

RAFT offers support for starting Makerspaces as well as material management. RAFT works with your school community to co-design a custom, on-site makerspace, often starting small and scaling up as the school community grows into STEAM or maker pedagogy initiatives. A makerspace can be as simple as a well-designed cart full of up-cycled building materials, a reimagined storage closet, a single wall, or an entire workroom

Makerspace Design and Build

RAFT facilitates one-day Community Makerspace Builds. Over the course of one or multiple school days we engage and train students and volunteers to build makerspace furniture and storage solutions. We provide all the tools and experienced staff to facilitate a safe experience.

Makespace Support

Drawing from a long list of short, engaging design challenges, RAFT helps teachers and students get comfortable with managing materials and facilitating student-led learning activities. From there, teachers develop their own inquiry-based learning experiences and share their learning with their peers. Hands-On Materials and Materials Management

Too often teachers and schools lack resources for creating meaningful project-based learning. RAFT can supply an abundance of upcycled materials directly to schools. Sustainability is a crucial part of our program, and greener, more affordable resources ensure that teachers and schools will have the tools they need to create joyful and effective learning.

We have starter packs for classrooms and schools that include a wide range of common materials to support projects, maker activities, genius hours, and other hands-on activities. We can also supply materials for our learning/design challenge activities. See our catalog of design challenges and activities.
