This winter, Northwood Elementary students in Berryessa School District embarked on a creative journey through RAFT’s three-day Intersession program. Designed to spark imagination and hands-on learning, the program engaged 66 students in grades K-5 in the art of puppet-making, storytelling, and performance, culminating in a special showcase for families.

Hands-On Creativity in Action

Throughout the program, students explored various aspects of puppetry, from crafting their own puppets to designing custom theaters and props. Using RAFT’s signature approach of hands-on, creative reuse materials, students built:

  • Stick puppets, sock puppets, and marionettes to bring their characters to life
  • Custom theaters and props to enhance their storytelling
  • Scripts that allowed them to develop narratives and dialogue for their performances

A Showcase to Remember

The highlight of the program took place on Friday, when students proudly presented their puppet shows to an audience of parents and peers. Each class showcased their creativity, teamwork, and storytelling skills in a series of unique performances that captured the audience’s imagination.

By blending arts, storytelling, and hands-on learning, RAFT’s Intersession program at Northwood Elementary provided an enriching and engaging experience for students. This initiative not only fostered creativity but also built confidence, collaboration, and communication skills—essential tools for lifelong learning.
