Today the world celebrates International Day of Education! Not only do we recognize the contributions of teachers, the personal development of students, and the hard work of everyone in the education field, but we also take today to recognize the role of education for the world. Education can unlock every individual’s potential and pave the way for a brighter future, a future that is more sustainable, inclusive, and peaceful.

In December 2018, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed January 24 as International Day of Education, honoring education as a universal right and a means to promote the common good. In fact, all UN Member States acknowledged the role that education has in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as it is essential for all of their goals.

We at RAFT understand the connection between education and environmental sustainability, and it’s this understanding that compels us to make our services affordable and environmentally friendly. Not only do we need to educate our students about sustainability and the other global challenges we face, but we need to give an example that they may follow.

While today is a celebration of educators and the benefits of education, we should also take a moment to recognize the millions of individuals who do have the opportunity to pursue their education. Whether the obstacle is poverty, gender, or a lack of access to digital technology, no one deserves to have their education denied to them. Education is a universal right, so let’s take the responsibility to educate ourselves about this inequality and learn how we can take action on behalf of those who are due the opportunity to develop themselves and their communities.

Thanks again to all educators and students. We at RAFT are grateful for your efforts.
