Wave Explorer

Wave Explorer Idea Sheet

Assemble a device that allows you to see waves!  The Wave Explorer uses a strobe-like effect to visualize sound waves. By juxtaposing a black rubber band against a rotating black disk with four white stripes, the rubber band is only visible when a white stripe is behind it. As the disk rotates, you see a series of snapshots of different parts of the rubber band as the white stripes rotate behind it, revealing the shape of soundwaves. Wave Explorer Slides

NOTE: Wave Explorer kits purchased on Saturday, August 10, 2019, may not include the 2 necessary 10″ jumper wires with pins.  Instead, 3 shorter wires were included for each 10″ jumper wire. Below are some options to solve this issue.

Option 1: Connect the short wires together by cutting the supplied stretchy tubing (2.5mm OD, 1mm ID) into shorter lengths.  Slide the pins of two short wires into the tubing to connect them together.  You should still have a sufficient amount of these tubing connectors to complete the kit.

Option 2: Visit RAFT to ask for 2 10″ jumper wires.

Option 3: Send an email with your name, member number, and address to Eric Welker (eric@raft.net) or Qi Diaz (qi@raft.net).  RAFT will mail you two 10″ jumper wires.
