RAFT is heartbroken by the violent, racist attacks against the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. The latest attacks are only the most recent examples of a horrifying increase in harassment and violence against the AAPI community, largely fueled by divisive, xenophobic sentiments. RAFT condemns this despicable behavior, and we stand in solidarity with the AAPI community and allies.

As an education organization focused on improving equity for underserved and minority communities, RAFT is committed to social and racial justice. These issues permeate all areas of life, including education. Taking a stand against these injustices is essential to ensuring all our community members, especially our students and educators, are not held back by fear of being discriminated against, denied access, ridiculed or outright attacked.

Teaching is a position of leadership and a commitment to truth, and RAFT is committed to standing by our teachers in the face of injustice.

We hope you will join us in supporting our community and ending racial and gender-based violence. If you’d like to take action yourself, we recommend the following:

  • Reach out to your elected officials, local, state, and national, to share your concerns and ask what is being done to protect those affected by these attacks.
  • Speak with your family and friends about these injustices and directly address stereotyping or racist comments.

We offer our sympathy to those community members who have suffered any form of discrimination, and we will continue to work toward a brighter future.

Sincerely,

Jason Morrella
