RAFT (Resource Area For Teaching) in Redwood City recently hosted sixteen staff members from the Beechwood School located in Menlo Park, California that toured the facility and attended a workshop on hands on teaching. The school was impacted by a fire on September 17th which destroyed the school administrative offices and one third grade classroom.

Oracle and RAFT joined forces to provide RAFT Memberships, shopping bags filled with education resources, and gift cards for the Beechwood School staff to use in making their own selections from a wide range of available materials. One staff member provided this observation, “This gift helped me to provide multiple entry points for my diverse student population.”

Third grade teacher Mary-Eileen Gallagher lost her classroom along with all her teaching materials and lessons collected over many years. She received a RAFT membership and a $300 RAFT gift card made possible by Oracle financial support. Gallagher can once again give her students hands on science lessons like the one on

owl pellet dissection with the owl pellets and tweezers she found at RAFT. She can also acquire materials like a bulletin board that help to complete a classroom.

One staff member shared this view, “This is a great place to help teachers effectively reach their students and keep them engaged with hands-on activities.” All staff members expressed this sentiment; “Oracle and RAFT, we thank you so much for your generosity.”
